Student medicine in the UK: what process?
Medicine is one of the few subjects that combines academic qualifications and methodology. To study medicine in UK, you will need to prepare yourself with the best high school marks, because the competition is so fierce.
You will also be expected to sit for UCAT or BMAT entrance exams — depending on which university you decide to apply to — and produce an IELTS certificate.
Medical colleges in the UK offer the most expensive programs in the world. In other words, while all other programs have a syllabus nearby, medical studies are conducted at very high rates. Where can I study medicine in the UK?
You have a choice of 37 universities. For the most part, these universities expect you to pass the UCAT entrance exam, but BMAT is preferred by:
• Oxford
• Cambridge
• UCL
• Imperial College
• Birghton
• Leeds
• Lancaster
Of course you can both sit down and expand your options, but that would require hard work! Remember, you can live it once a year, so if you pass the exam in 2021, it won’t count in 2022, and you’ll have to rewrite it.
Testing for Medical Interventions and English Language Requirements
Before the end of the medical year you need to take the following tests or enter the medical system test:
• The UK Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) is an entry test that forms part of the selection process.
• MCAT (Medical Admission Test)
IDAT (Dental Infection Test)
To enter directly into the degree program, you also need to demonstrate proof of your English language skills. A TOEFL or IELTS test needs to be taken. A minimum of 5.5 or 6 at each test site (scores vary from university to university)
